Maria Sakkari took some time off after the Sunshine double to recover and get her mind right for the clay season where she had a lot of success over the years.
She won her maiden trophy at the 2019 Rabat Open on clay and reached the semifinal of the French Open last year coming very close to securing the final. Her loss came against champion Barbora Krejcikova. Now, looking ahead Sakkari is excited about what this part of the season might bring:
"I had a week off after Miami, so that really helped me to just get back on the tennis court, being excited about the clay season. I have to be deadly honest that this is probably my favourite swing of the season and I feel good."
Sakkari further said:
I've been training on indoor clay for the last two weeks. This is my favourite swing and I feel good. The first couple of matches I'm expecting them to be a little bit rusty, not feeling my tennis on the highest level, but I'm sure it will get there."
She is is seeded 4th at the
Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart with her first match coming tomorrow.
