Emma Raducanu suffered a devastating loss at the Transylvania Open but the Brit is already looking towards Melbourne and the Australian Open.
Emma Raducanu got easily bested by Marta Kostyuk at the Transylvania Open in Cluj-Napoca and that leaves only one event left for the young Brit. The tennis event in Linz should start in 6 days and as of now, Raducanu is set to appear there as well. That event should end her 2021 campaign which was a major success thanks to an unexpected triumph at the US Open.
After her loss in Cluj-Napoca, Raducanu expressed excitement about the prospect of a new season especially with the Australian Open not far away:
“I’m really excited to go to Melbourne. I played the juniors there and it’s an incredible city but obviously, the pros is different. But I’m excited, it’s going to be my first time going there as a pro. So it’s going to be a new experience, a new locker room.
She then talked about her stay in Cluj-Napoca explaining that people were very welcoming:
“The people were so welcoming, the hospitality was great and everyone made sure as best as possible that everything was as good as it can be. I was very, very grateful to everyone who welcomed me. In a way, I was surprised by how much the Romanian crowd got behind me. I really felt that."
Speaking on the match itself she explained that she was disappointed with the result while also reiterating her desire to come back:
“I was disappointed I couldn’t put on a better show for them. I would have loved to have had fans watching the last few matches. 100% I will be coming back to this tournament. I will definitely make sure this tournament or another tournament in Romania takes, a big priority in my calendar as they do mean a lot to me.”
