Daria Kasatkina played another solid match to take down compatriot Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets and reach her maiden grand slam semifinal.
It was a very interesting match that saw Kasatkina battle back from an early deficit in the first set 1-3 to win it 6-4. She was up a few times with a break in the 2nd set but Kudermetova was able to battle back and force a tiebreak where Kasatkina proved better 7-5. She was up 6-1 in that tiebreak squandering a few match points but ultimately survived.
Speaking after the match, Daria said:
“You could see the match was really nervous inside, especially the tiebreak, the last few points were super tight. I’m happy in the end, it’s a very important win for me. I’m happy to be in the semis for the first time."
She continued;
“I was trying to forget about the games I lost, especially the one on return, I had two break points. It’s tough, it’s so mental but I’m happy I was able to win. My box were pretty nervous I guess, especially at the end. I love them so much and I want to spend a little bit more time with them. Thank you guys and keep calm - it's OK!"
