Iga Swiatek charged her first title of the season on Saturday, as the No.7 seed from Poland cruised past No.4 seed Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-2, 6-0 to win the Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha.
It was an overpowering display with Swiatek needing just over an hour to race to the finish line against arguably one of the best tennis players at the moment. Kontaveit has been performing at a very high level for quite some time now but the Estonian was simply not good enough today. After the match Swiatek said:
"I'm pretty happy that I was composed and I stayed in the same shape I was for the whole tournament because playing finals is a different feeling. It's always a little bit more stress."
Swiatek further said:
"It's so nice to have these kind of matches where you don't actually have problems with keeping the pace and with staying aggressive, because right now I'm a more aggressive player, and I really love it, because it's giving me a lot of confidence on and off court. It's just making sometimes life on court easier."
