Rafael Nadal extended his brilliant 2022 season with another win improving to 15-0 on the year and taking down Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-4 in the Acapulco final.
Similar to 2022, Rafael Nadal won the trophy without dropping a set beating several players en route to the trophy. One of them is Daniil Medvedev, who will take over as world number one tomorrow. After the match, Nadal confirmed that Acapulco is a special place for him:
"It always has been a very special place. The energy that the people from Mexico bring to me is very unique."
The 6-4 6-4 win came after a solid performance from the Spaniard but it was far from easy:
"I went through some very difficult moments during the match that I
was able to save, and then I took advantage when I had the chances,"
said Nadal, who is both the youngest and oldest champion at the event. I'm very pleased. It was a very important title for me, so I can't be happier."
