Andrea Petkovic is having a pretty good run in Australia to start 2022 and the German is cherishing every moment she is on the court.
The reason for that is simple, she can see the finish line. It's a thing many athletes fear, life after the career but for Petkovic, it's something normal. Talking to WTA Insider she revealed her thoughts about what could possibly be her final season:
"I'm 34, which is young for life, but old for tennis. I'm seeing the finish line. I don't know if it's going to be this
season or next season, but I can see the finish line and at times it
makes me really sad because this is my passion."
She will face
Naomi Osaka in the next round and there is an interesting fact about Osaka and Petkovic. The German was the first player to defeat Osaka on the WTA tour. It came back in 2014 when Petkovic won 6-2 6-2 and remembering that match Osaka said:
"I felt like she definitely taught me a lesson that day. Yeah, I definitely got my butt kicked"
On playing Osaka Petkovic herself said:
"I love going out there with these young girls who have such an amazing new attitude and bring all this energy to the world, especially to the tennis world."
