"I'm still feeling the nerves" - Gauff highlights importance of smaller events for her

Coco Gauff has won two career trophies but the American is eager to make it more and that's why she's putting a lot of importance on smaller events like this one.

In all fairness, San Jose is a WTA 500 event so it's a small event but it is smaller compared to the goals Gauff has in her career. The American put forward another strong performance at the event beating Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-4 to move on to the quarterfinals. Speaking after the match, Gauff said:

"Yeah, I'm super pleased. I mean, a straight-set win against a champion like her is never easy and I'm glad that I was able to do that. I'm still feeling the nerves. I know, it's a smaller tournament, but I feel that when I play her. I feel that we both want it and that's I just what I enjoy about playing against her. Because the energy is always at 100 and probably even more."

Up next for Gauff is Paula Badosa, a player the American beat earlier this year in Doha. On that matchup, Coco said:

“It's going to be another tough match. I feel like I got a lot of tough matches ahead of me, but that's tennis. I love competing and I feel like these tough matches will make me stronger, win or lose. And I want to play as many top players as I can before the US Open. If you want to win a tournament, then you have to at least beat one of them."
