Iga Swiatek of Poland zipped past No.1 seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 14 minutes to reach the semifinals.
It was a brilliant showing from the Polish player who dominated the match for the most part. There was a slight dip in focus at the start of the 2nd set where Sabalenka was able to take a 3-0 lead but the Polish player went on to win six straight games to close it off. The victory, in her own words, will give her a lot of confidence ahead of a clash with Sakkari:
"This match is going to give me a lot of confidence. I'm very happy that tactically I did a great job, and my mental game was also on point. That's the most important thing for me, because from the beginning I wanted to be aggressive and to be focusing on myself and on my game."
Next up is a clash against Sakkari who is playing a superb event as well. The Greek player dominates the matchup with a 3-0 lead so far. The last time they played was last year at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara with Sakkari winning 6-2 6-4.
