Russia’s
Anna Kalinskaya has withdrawn from
Wimbledon 2023
after failing to recover from an injury in time.
The third Grand Slam of the year will be played from 03-16
July in London.
The 24-year-old, in an emotional post on her official
Instagram
account, stated that her recovery from an injury she sustained during the match
against Elena Rybakina in May in Rome earlier this year has taken longer than 'expected' and that she will miss playing her ‘favourite tournament’.
“Unfortunately I wasn’t able to recover from my injury &
it’s taking longer than expected. Missing my favourite tournament.” 💔
The development will be a major setback for Kalinskaya, who also missed the French Open earlier because of the same injury, as she is yet to win a single match while playing at Wimbledon’s main round.
She was knocked out from the first round twice while playing
at Wimbledon, first in 2019 against Poland’s Magda Linette with a score of 6-0,
7-6 and then in 2021 against Colombia’s Camila Osorio with a score of 1-6, 6-0,
6-4.
Overall, her record while playing at the grass surface is
not a bad one where she has a win percentage of 52.78. In 2023, Kalinskaya had
a decent run with 15 wins in 26 outings which included 11 defeats in total.
