The 2021 season starts in a couple of days, and it is already safe to say that
Serena Williams will not compete at the Madrid Mutua Open in May!
The Madrid Mutua Open owner Ion Tiriac has crossed the boundaries again, speaking about Serena for the Romanian site and encouraging the 23-time Major winner to retire as soon as possible! Not for the first time, Tiriac expressed his disrespect for a great champion, dropping comments on her age and weight and telling her to save a little decency and retire from tennis.
Serena finished the previous season outside the top-10 for the third time in the past four years but only by just, still standing strong and motivated to chase that elusive 24th Major crown in 2021.
Serena's last Major trophy came at the Australian Open four years ago, giving berth to a daughter later that year and returning in 2018. The American reached four Major finals at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2018 and 2019, losing them all but holding the desire to make another try in the season ahead of us.
"At this age and the weight she is now, she does not move as easily as he did 15 years ago. Serena was a sensational player. If she had a little decency, she would retire! From all points of view," Ion Tiriac said.
