The courts at the ongoing Miami Open seem to have received a different response from players than those used at Indian Wells last week, with British tennis star Emma Raducanu voicing her opinion on the matter.

The 2021 US Open champion secured an easy first round victory over Japanese wildcard Sayaka Ishii, recording a 6-2 6-1 victory to advance to the second round. Awaiting Raducanu is American Emma Navarro, in what should be a difficult challenge for the young Brit.

The court conditions could prove to be challenging, says Raducanu

Although Raducanu suffered a disappointing first round loss at last week's Indian Wells event, the former World No.10 bounced back in a big way with her dominating victory over Ishii. Following her match, Raducanu was asked whether the courts whether she enjoyed playing on Stadium Court.

"I think the courts are pretty lively when the balls are new but they rough up quite quickly and then they get very slow and heavy,” said Raducanu. “It depends what time of day, because in the shadow it is also slower and then in the sun it’s a lot more lively. It depends. It’s difficult when the balls get fluffier because it’s just slower and a lot more physical but it’s the same for everyone.”

Raducanu has been struggling with form and fitness over the past year. Furthermore, she recently split from her latest coach after just a few weeks, adding more fuel to the fire that the former Grand Slam champion might be difficult to work with as she has cycled through over five coaches in her short career.
