Tsvetana Pironkova is playing fascinating tennis at her first event in three years exceeding her previous personal best at the US Open.
Tsvetana Pironkova continued her great run at this year's
US Open with another straight-sets victory against
Donna Vekic. This is Pironkova's first event in three years and she even exceeded her own personal best result at the US Open. After the match he said:
"It feels great. It feels amazing. Of course, unexpected. But just super happy."
Many reporters were fascinated by how
Pironkova managed to play this well after such a long break. She explained that by saying:
"It feels the same to me, it feels normal to me. I've been doing that for more than 15 years. I just had three years' break. That's kind of how I grew up, what I have been doing for a long, long time. You cannot just forget it like that. It just doesn't happen that way, I guess."
Reflecting on the match itself
Pironkova admitted that the match was much tougher than the result gets suggested:
"It was a tough match, I would say, even though the score does not suggest it that much."
Her next opponent will be Alize Cornet who moved to the next round after
Keys retired in their match. Speaking about them Pironkova said they were both amazing players and that she could not wait to face either of them.
