America’s
Coco Gauff has opened up about difficulty while
changing something during mid-season. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the
most talented players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles
category.
Gauff is currently in Riyadh where she is to take part in
the WTA Finals. The mega-event, which is the last in the women’s tennis calendar,
is being played for the first time in Saudi Arabia. The Atlanta-born has been recently
quoted in a report where she explained about how difficult it has been to
change something during mid-season. Gauff was of the opinion that the right
time to modify your game or serve is during the off-season where a player is
not playing week in, week out.
"I have made a change with that [serve],” she said. “Yeah,
obviously it's difficult. You do something you know one way for your whole life
basically. Actually, I wouldn't say my whole life. I definitely think I
migrated as time went on. But it was for a long time. You kind of have to
correct it, and you're playing matches. Everything just feels fresh and new. It
is difficult, but you got to think of the long-term and the long run. I feel
like this is the right decision. When it was going well, it was going really
well. Yeah, I think I just need more time with it. I spent two weeks at home
working on it. Yeah, we'll see how it goes here.”
Gauff will begin her WTA Finals journey on Sunday with the match
against fellow countrywoman Jessica Pegula on Sunday. It will be the sixth
meeting between the two. In the previous five meetings, Pegula has a clear edge
as she won on four occasions and suffered just one defeat. Their most recent
meeting was in the semifinal of the Berlin Open where Pegula came out on top in
straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-6.
