Caroline Garcia took down
Coco Gauff in the first
WTA Finals match of both players in spite of the American getting all the crowd support.
Gauff was widely supported by her native crowd but Caroline Garcia remained calm defeating her opponent in two sets. She did the same thing a couple of weeks back when she played against Gauff at the US Open and the atmosphere was even more electric back then. When asked to recap it, Garcia said:
"It was definitely a good match, pretty solid on my side. I think I stayed really positive at every moment [Coco] is always impressive to play against, it’s always a lot of intensity and she can do so many things. ... It was very important for me to stay calm, stay on my game and what I wanted to do, and I think I did it good."
The French player was very aggresive from the start taking the ball really early and returning services pretty much inside the court. It worked in her favour as she joins Iga Swiatek as the winner in round one. It gives her a good chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
