Poland’s
Iga Swiatek has revealed that she would target winning the
Australian Open in
2024. The 22-year-old is a four-time Grand Slam winner but surprisingly she has
never lifted the title in Melbourne.
Swiatek, while responding to a question on her social media
platform account Instagram, stated that her objective in 2024 is to win the
Australian Open as she believes it will be easier to win the competition than Wimbledon.
“Australian Open not only because it’s the first one but I
have a feeling my game suits the that court and it would be easier for me to
win this than Wimbledon,” she said.
The world number one’s best outing while playing at the
Australian Open came in 2022 when she lost the semifinal of the competition to America’s
Danielle Collins in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Swiatek ended the season on a high as she lifted the WTA Finals
title after beating America’s Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-1, 6-0. That victory
was enough to help the Warsaw-born to finish 2023 as the number one-ranked
player in the world.
Swiatek had a mixed year at the highest level. The highlight
of the year for her was winning the French Open where she defeated Karolína
Muchova of the Czech Republic in the final with a score of 6–2, 5–7, 6–4.
