Naomi Osaka and Wim Fissette won't be working together anymore as the coach revealed their split ahead of the 2022 US Open.
Wim and Naomi started working together at the start of the 2020 season with Osaka winning the 2020 US Open and 2021 Australian Open under him. The Belgian announced the split on social media thanking Osaka for the chance and calling it a privilege:
"It has been a privilege to coach Naomi since 2019 and see her grow into the champion she has become. She has inspired a whole new generation to fall in love with the game and to speak up for what they believe in. It’s been incredible to play a part in that journey. Thank you... I wish you all the best and looking forward to my next chapter."
Fissette has a long list of players he worked with that includes Kerber, Halep, Clijsters and Azarenka. Osaka has not yet commented on the split however she did confirm a return to tennis soon. Fissette finished off by writing:
"Thank you Naomi Osaka. I wish you all the best and looking forward to my next chapter."
