Jessica Pegula led the United States team to victory in the
Billie Jean King Cup.
The
American team secured a win against Austria in the women's team tournament,
with tennis players
Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula taking the spotlight. On the
first day, both won their singles matches, and on the second day, Pegula
secured the crucial third point that clinched the qualification. Despite the
series already being decided, a doubles match was still played, with Coco Gauff
partnering
Caty McNally to give the USA a 4-0 win in the series.
“I think it’s fun and a privilege to be in this moment
and do it,” said Pegula after the match. “Obviously a little bit of
pressure, but I think it’s fun to get up for those types of matches,” she
added.
With their qualification already secured, the
Americans, led by world No. 3 Pegula and world No. 6 Coco Gauff, will compete
in the finals with the aim of achieving their 19th title in the event.
