Emma Raducanu once again confirmed that she will play for Great Britain in the
Billie Jean King Cup after withdrawing from their tie in Coventry next month.
Raducanu has played for Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup in the past but she's failed to be on the court a few times now. Some have speculated that she's dodging playing for her country but she dismissed those claims as false reiterating that she wants to play for Great Britain it's just the unlucky timing of her injuries:
"I think because of my existing injuries,
the best medical advice was to not switch surfaces at such short notice.
So that's what I've been told. Of course I would love to play the Billie Jean King Cup. It's just this scenario is not the best for my body.
She added:
"I really need to look after myself and do what's best for me on the match court. I would love to play the Olympics."
Her return will most likely come at the Stuttgart event which begins only a few days after that Billie Jean King Cup tie which doesn't help Raducanu in the way this is perceived. It's unlikely that those 2 or 3 days will make a huge difference.
