Clijsters put forward a very solid effort taking her opponent Siniakova to a decider but ultimately found herself losing once more. After the match Clijsters was honest about knowing the comeback would not be a smooth ride but also noting that she is improving with more matches:
“Last week in Chicago, I started off well but had a few games where I just really wasn’t into the match. Here too, just looking for my rhythm, my anticipation again, reading my opponents, getting used to playing on a bigger court again, a lot of different things. I fought my way into the match well in that second set, and I kind of put her under pressure a little bit better.”
Clijsters also noted that she is feeling really good on the court at time explaining:
“I think overall, there are definitely moments where I’m feeling really good out there, and there are moments where I feel too inconsistent. That’s part of this process in general, it’s not going to be a smooth ride, and that’s what I’m going to try to improve every time I’m out there.”
Clijsters will return to work towards her first victory since coming back but she will need to do so at another event. It's unclear where Clijsters might play next or if she will play in 2021 at all.
