Having just celebrated her 100th total week at World No.1 and finished the year as the world's best player for the third straight year, Ashleigh Barty would like to add another feather to her cap; the Australian Open title.
Success in Melbourne continues to elude the Queensland native, who would love nothing more than to lift the trophy in front of her home crowd.
"I've been agonizingly close," said Barty in an interview with 9 News. "I love to play my best tennis in Australia and I would love to be able to do that this January."
The reigning Wimbledon champion has made the last eight twice in Melbourne, with her best result coming in 2020 when she reached the semifinals. However, the 25-year old is aiming to go one further next year, and finally lift the trophy that means the most to her.
"Ultimately, that's my goal," revealed Barty. "It's to win the Australian Open."
Barty opted to withdraw from the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, choosing instead to return home and prepare for the first Grand Slam of next season, which kicks off on January 17-30, 2022.
