A bit of an upset happened today in Madrid as
Ons Jabeur completely downed two-time Madrid champion
Simona Halep 6-3 6-2.
Not only was it a win but it was a convicing win where Halep never looked comfortable and the win never looked in dbout for Jabeur. It was an interesting ending considering how the match started. Jabeur was a bit shaky to start hitting the ball out while Halep was rather solid. It was Simona who took the early break but Jabeur fought back.
She explained a few days ago that she came to Madrid for her revenge and it seems like she meant it. She battled back to 3-2 and then took another break finishing off the set with 6-3. Jabeur simply found a very good rhythm and she outhit her opponent rather easily. Halep stood further from the line to counter that but Jabeur then had a few drop shots.
The 2nd set was even more impressive for Jabeur who continued playing well as Halep struggled to find her game. It's something that has plagued the Romanian in the past months where she should simply vanish after several great matches. Halep actually served better than her opponent but she was too vulnerable on her 2nd serve and Jabeur was able to get the win.
