Former
Australian Open quarterfinalist
Ons Jabeur withdrew from the event due to a back injury sustained in Sydney.
The Tunisian player enjoys playing in Australia showcased by her results at the event. She reached the quarterfinal two years ago almost reaching the semifinal as well. The Tunisian player had a breakout season in 2021 and hoped to see even better results in 2022 but that will have to wait. Playing in Sydney last week, she sustained a back injury that did not heal enough in time for Melbourne. She announced the news on her social media pages writing:
"Hi everyone. Sadly I had to withdraw from my first round of the Australian Open today. I have injured my back in Sydney last week. I tried everything to be ready and thought I could have recovered in time to play here. Unfortunately, the pain is still very present and playing in such conditions could jeopardize my whole season."
She further wrote:
"I will now rest and treat myself to come back as soon as possible. Thank you so much to all my fans and all of their support. Hoping to be 100 % for the next one"
