In Brandon Nakashima, Matteo Berrettini faced a very tough opponent for the first round in Melbourne. The American is a rising youngster who can make your life miserable if you let him and early on the American had a way. He took the first set with 6-4 complicating things for the Italian but Berrettini fought back in the next 6-2. The 3rd was a crucial one and Berrettini won that in a tiebreak 7-5.

After that, it was a bit easier for Berrettini who won the 4th set with 6-3 and move on. During the traditional camera signature, Berrettini thanked a special something for helping him overcome his struggles in the match.
