Jessica Pegula advances after Giorgi retires

Jessica Pegula and Camila Giorgi have played a great match in the past and this one was pretty decent but Giorgi retired after the first set.

Pegula has been one of the better players in the recent few years even though her year so far featured several upset losses. She didn't play badly in this one as she took an early lead and from the start asserted herself as the better player on the court. She took an early 2-0 lead and then a 4-0 lead after which Giorgi finally was able to get some games in.

After the conclusion of the first set, Giorgi took a medical timeout and at the end of it retired from the match. It was a long one so the problem seemed to be a really big one as she couldn't continue the match. Terrible ending for the Italian after a solid first match though she didn't play too well here from the start.
