Three of the world's top players gave their views on the three-month suspension that world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face after last year's positive doping. Americans Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, and No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka expressed their feelings after the bizarre ruling.
WADA reached an agreement with Jannik Sinner's representatives to sanction the Italian and ban him from competing in the Tour for three months, following the double positive test by the world number one in doping controls carried out in March 2024.
The case had a huge repercussion and several of the stars of the circuit gave their opinion about it. Among them three top 10 players, Jessica Pegula (5), Coco Gauff (3) and the world number 1, Aryna Sabalenka, shared their opinion:
"I trust everyone to do what they can to protect the sport. As a player, that's all I can hope for, I just hope it's more for the protection of the sport and not just to catch players," said the latest WTA Finals champion.
"You become too aware of things and it gets in your head...you test positive, they're coming after you and they're not going to believe you or anything. The system scares you too much. I don't know how I can trust it," said the current world No. 1.
One who didn't mince words was the last US Open finalist, Jessica Pegula, who declared:
"Whether you're clean or not, the process is completely broken. I feel like they have so much power to ruin someone's career..... I don't think any of the players trust the process at all right now. Zero. It's a horrible image for the sport."
