A big upset happened in Strasbourg today as the number one seed
Karolina Pliskova was ousted by
Kaja Juvan 6-2 7-5.
Pliskova opened the match in a very slow fashion being taken aback by the aggressive nature of Juvan who was on fire. She was cleaning lines left and right opening up the match with a break. She continued applying pressure and the opening set ended with Juvan winning it 6-2. It started to rain a bit but the match continued with Pliskova playing much better in the 2nd.
Not initially as Juvan jumped out to a 1-0 lead but Pliskova battled back to take the lead. Midway through the set Juvan struggled a bit missing balls quite a bit. The Slovenian player was able to hold her serve during that time which proved crucial. Eventually towards the end of the 2nd set Pliskova started to miss again while Juvan picked up her rhythm.
The Slovenian found a breakthrough late taking a 6-5 lead and finished it off with 7-5. Juvan had to save a break point in that game but she was able to do so.
