Karolina Pliskova defeated Madison Keys in the final at the 2020 Brisbane International to earn her first title of 2020 season.
After former no.1
Serena Williams won the title in Auckland, another former world number 1, Karolina Pliskova fought for the title in Brisbane. However, Williams waited for almost 3 years and Pliskova has
won the title just a few months ago in Zhengzhou.
Both players had a difficult journey to the final. Keys defeated Bouzkova, Stosur, Collins, and Kvitova as Pliskova was the third Czech player she faced in Australia. Karolina defeated Tomljanovic, Riske and
Naomi Osaka.
The final had a lot to offer as players fought in three sets. After turning away 2 breakpoints in the 8th game, Pliskova broke her opponent's service game in the 9th and won the first set 6-4.
But Keys did not give up as she leveled the score after the second set. In the second set, the Czech led already 5-3, but Keys leveled the score once again. However, the Czech player got another break and she ended the match on her service game. It is the first title in the 2020 season for Pliskova after winning 4 titles in 2019.
