Serena Williams defeated Jessica Pegula in the final at the 2020 ASB Classic in Auckland to claim her first title in 3 years.
It was a long time without the title for Serena. Last time she lifted the trophy over her head was at the 2017 Australian Open. It was her last tournament before maternity leave. After returning, Williams played in 5 finals but did not manage to win a single set in any. Now she finally broke the unsuccessful streak.
2020 ASB Classic was a great tournament for Serena so far. She has defeated Giorgi, McHale, Siegemund, and
Anisimova in singles and
reached finals also in doubles.
Jessica Pegula did not resist much when she lost 3-6, 4-6 after an hour and 36 minutes.
Serena began the 2020 season successfully and she will also move to 9th place in the WTA Ranking. Now she has one more task to do as she is playing the final of doubles with her friend Caroline Wozniacki. They will be facing Muhammad & Townsend and Williams can complete a double in Auckland.
