Karolina Pliskova Rome 2021
A very interesting matchup happened at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart between Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova with the latter winning it 6-4 4-6 7-6(5).
It was very exciting, it was very competitive and we saw a lot of great tennis by two powerhouses of Czech tennis. It took almost three hours but Pliskova was able to score her biggest win since returning from injury recently and it was a match that featured a lot of encouraging things for Karolina. Kvitova herself is not playing very good tennis in 2022 so while very impressive, this victory can be explained.
Kvitova jumped out to a 3-0 lead with some very good play while Pliskova struggled to get into a very good rhythm. Eventually, Pliskova started playing better and things changed a bit after that as the score got back to 3-3. Eventually towards the end of the set Pliskvoa was completely in control of the match closing it out with 6-4.
The 2nd set featured quite a battle between the players as they traded early breaks. After that Kvitova played a tiny bit better which made things interesting She had a lead but it never seemed like she was in complete control of the match. She did finish it off with 6-4 sending the match into the 3rd set. The 3rd set featured more better play from Kvitova who took a 4-1 lead.
After that, though Pliskova upped her game suddenly and we went into a tiebreak where Kvitova was ahead a couple of times. In the end, it was Pliskova who won it 7-5. A great comeback win from Pliskova who will take a lot of confidence into the next match.
