Katie Boulter won the all-British final at the Nottingham Open by beating compatriot Burrage 6-3 6-3 finishing off a dream week for the new Union Jack Number One.
Boulter got a wild card entry into the event and she surprised many including herself with her level. The Brit was able to play some amazing tennis beating a few good players along to way to the final. The final ended up being a historic one where two British players faced off in a WTA Final for the first time in history.
It was Boulter against Burrage and the former proved better. It was a competitive match but Boulter produced a spectacular effort to win both sets rather comfortably. It was a great moment for her, the pinnacle of her career as she's now a WTA champion and the new British number one. The Triumph also saw her return to the top 100 for the first time in a while so it was just a perfect week for Boulter who didn't grow up too far from Nottingham.
She's from Woodhouse Eaves some 20 miles south of Nottingham. Speaking after the match, Boulter joked that she will sleep with the trophy after the triumph:
"I'm definitely going to be sleeping with this trophy tonight.
