Despite her slow start to the 2023 season,
Sofia Kenin has seen her stock rise as the American pulled off a spectacular semifinal run at the
Guadalajara Open Akron to continue climbing up the WTA Ranking table.
The American fell to compatriot Caroline Dolehide in the final four, but only after taking out seeded players like Anhelina Kalinina and 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko along the way.
Kenin sees big jump in ranking following second consecutive successful event
The former World No.4 was ranked World No.93 just two weeks ago, but a runner-up finish in San Diego saw her rise to No.53 last week. Following her impressive run to the Guadalajara semifinals, the 2020 Australian Open champion climbed even higher to break into the Top 40, where she currently sits at World No.31. This is her highest ranking since February 2022, where she was ranked 13th in the world.
Kenin isn't the only American making big moves, as Dolehide rose to World No.42 following her runner-up finish in Guadalajara last weekend. The 25-year old shattered her previous career-high ranking of World No.111, climbing up 57 spots to make her Top 50 debut.
“I feel really proud of myself,” said Dolehide, “proud of the work that I’ve put in, proud of the work that my team has put in—as hard as I work, they work, so it’s a team effort.”
