Sofia Kenin
suffered a first-round loss in the qualifying rounds of the WTA
Nottingham Open
against Sonay Kartal, with a score of 2-6, 6-7.
The
American player continues to struggle to achieve the good results that led her
to win the 2020 Australian Open and reach the final of Roland Garros in the
same year. Kenin has faced injuries throughout her career, and at 24 years old,
currently outside the top 100, she has been unable to regain the form that
propelled her to world No. 4.
Kenin had
previously suffered a first-round loss in the qualifying rounds of the French
Open against local player Margux Rouvroy, as she did not receive a wildcard to
enter the main draw.
This time, in her first grass court
tournament, she fell in straight sets to an unknown opponent, Kartal, who is
currently ranked No. 277 in the world, with her highest-ranking being No. 195
in January of this year.
Kenin's
next challenge will be at the Gaiba Challenger 160, which starts on June 19th.
