Venus
Williams will make her return to the courts on Tuesday against Celine Naef at
the Libema Open's Heertogensboch.
It has been
over 5 months since
Venus Williams last competed in a tournament. Despite
retirement rumors, especially after her sister Serena Williams decided to end
her career, Venus continues to seek competition at the highest level.
While
preparing at the beginning of the year to play the Australian Open, the former
world No. 1 participated in the ASB Classic, where she secured a victory
against her compatriot Katie Volynets but fell in the round of 16 to China's
Zhu Lin. However, she later announced an injury that would keep her out for
some time, without specifying a potential return date to the courts.
The
42-year-old tennis player reappeared on a court by posting a video on Twitter,
showing her training for her participation in the tournament, where she will
debut against Swiss player Celine Naef.
With the
start of the grass season, Venus will try to arrive in the best form for
Wimbledon, a tournament she has won 5 times. The tennis player is currently
ranked 696th in the world rankings, but she is likely to receive a wild card
for Wimbledon, considering her status as one of the tournament's greatest
champions.
