Angelique Kerber leveled the score for Germany against the Czech Republic in the
Billie Jean King Cup Finals with a 6-7(5) 6-0 6-4.
It was an unbelievable match between
Barbora Krejcikova and Angelique Kerber in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Prague. Vondrousova gave the Czech Republic a 1-0 lead with Kerber needing to win this match in order to leave Germany in the tie. Playing in front of the Czech crowd was tough for Kerber but the German prevailed.
Krejcikova jumped out to a 3-0 lead and looked in prime form for a demolition of Kerber but the German battle back to make it 4-2 first and then 4-4. Eventually, we came to the tiebreak where Krejcikova narrowly edged out Kerber 7-5 after losing 4-5. The German was very upset after the loss of the set so she came out focused and determined in the 2nd.
She played an amazing set against Krejcikova who could not hit a court and after only 25 minutes Kerber finished off the set with a bagel. It was a huge momentum swing for the German that left both Krejcikova and the Czech crowd stunned. It proved just that early in the 3rd set when Kreber took an early 3-1. Rallied by the crowd Krejcikova battled back to make it 3-3 and after that, the crucial game happened.
Krejcikova served and had 30-0 in the game before Kerber forced a few break points. She missed two of them but converted the 3rd one to take a 4-3 lead. She then held on for a 5-3 lead after which Krejcikova made it 5-4. Krejcikova had a break point in the final game of the match but Kerber held firm to give Germany a crucial point in the tie against the Czech Republic.
