Great Britain's Johanna Konta dispatched of Greece's Maria Sakkari to reach the semifinals at the Western & Southern Open.

The eighth seed required an hour and a half to complete her 6-4 6-3 victory over her Greek opponent. Sakkari, who had stunned Serena Williams in the previous round, was unable to limit her unforced errors in the match. She committed 37 of them, as opposed to 20 for Konta.
The British No.1 capitalized on a break point in the third game of the first set, and never looked back. She easily held serve to claim the first set, and pressured Sakkari's serve to begin the second. Although the Greek star saved two break points to keep things level, she was eventually broken and Konta obtained a 5-3 lead. Serving to stay in the match, Sakkari committed a costly double fault on match point which saw her crash out of the tournament.
Konta's consistency paid off, as she looked to be in control for the entirety of the match. The Brit next faces former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka, who defeated Tunisian star Ons Jabeur to advance to the semifinals. The pair have met twice on the WTA circuit, with each woman holding a victory.
