The WTA season has been a long and exciting one with two players firmly ahead of their competition when it comes to match wins -
Anett Kontaveit and
Ons Jabeur.
Both of these players have played exceptional tennis in 2021 to reach their career-best mark at the end of the season. Jabeur was arguably the most consistent tennis player all year long playing superb tennis pretty much from start to finish. That almost propelled her to the WTA finals but ultimately an injury prevented her from being able to secure a spot in Mexico.
She finished the year with 48 wins which is the highest mark on the WTA tour. The 2nd best mark is the possession of Anett Kontaveit, the player that pushed her out of the WTA Finals. Due to the injury, Jabeur would not have played at the event even if she made it but getting there officially would have been a great achievement. The majority of those wins came late in the year as Kontaveit finished the season with a 29-4 mark after starting the year with 19-13.
The Estonian and the Tunisian are both the first players from their countries, male OR female, to reach the Top 10 in ATP or WTA rankings history.
