Anett Kontaveit is the final player in the Ostrava Open semi-final after she defeated Belinda Bencic in straight sets 6-3 6-4.
The extremely strong WTA event in Ostrava has complete its semi-final lineup with Anett Kontaveit taking the final place. The Estonian player has played some smashing tennis this week in the Czech Republic and that continued today against Olympic champion Belinda Bencic. Bencic came out nervous in the match and she allowed herself to get broken rather quickly.
Kontaveit continued to pile one breaks taking an early 5-1 lead. It was only then that Bencic started playing a little bit better but it that did not matter much as Kontaveit closed it out with 6-3. A very shake start cost Bencic who was too erratic from the baseline against a very strong Kontaveit who made very few mistakes.
The 2nd set opened with Bencic breaking her opponent rather easily which made everyone in the crowd believe that we might see a 3-set match. However, things fell apart in the very next game when Kontaveit broke back completely shifting the momentum in her favour. The players then traded games before Kontaveit once again established herself from the baseline.
Outhitting Bencic consistently, she was able to take a 4-2 lead that proved enough in the end as the Estonian player won the match with 6-4. A tough defeat for Bencic who repeated her shaky performance from Luxembourg last week when she was beaten by Samsonova.
