It was a good day at the office for
Anett Kontaveit, who cruised past
Elena-Gabriela Ruse in their round of 16 clash at the
Sydney Tennis Classic.
Kontaveit did little wrong in her 6-3 6-1 victory on Wednesday, requiring just 76 minutes to book her place in the quarterfinals. The Estonian capitalized on her opponent's weak second serve, winning 17 out of 30 of those points.
Although Ruse started the match strong with an opening break of the Kontaveit serve, parity was soon restored as the fourth seed broke back. After another exchange of breaks, Kontaveit put her foot on the gas and never looked back.
The World No.7 clinched the first set, before outplaying her Romanian opponent in the second. Ruse was hindered by inefficient serving, hitting seven double faults in the second as her higher-ranked foe ran away with the match.
Kontaveit will face the winner between seventh seed Ons Jabeur and two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitová in the quarterfinals.
