Anett Kontaveit continued her sensational form in the past month with another impressive win 6-1 6-1 over Garbine Muguruza in Moscow.
Anett Kontaveit has been one of the best players over the past month or so and her dominating form continue at the Kremlin in Moscow. Her quarterfinal opponent was Garbine Muguruza and the Estonian completely dominated the match from start to finish. Muguruza has not been playing that well over the past month and her first match in Moscow was nothing special either.
Today she paid the price for her lacklustre form against a red-hot opponent who is full of confidence. Kontaveit took an early 3-0 lead after some sensational play from the baseline with Muguruza forced on the backfoot. The Spanish player rarely does well when backed into a corner and today she completely crumbled. Kontaveit hit 4 aces in the 6-1 1st set demolition losing only two points on serve.
Muguruza played a bit better in the 2nd set mostly hitting her serve more than the abysmal 44 % of the first set. It did not make any difference as Kontaveit once again took an early 2-0 lead. Muguruza showed more fight after that forcing her first break points but Kontaveit held on. She then broke Muguruza once more to take the 4-0 lead.
Despite struggling to win any 2nd serve points Muguruza was able to get on the board and make it 4-1. Kontaveit had a break point which would have probably resulted in a bagel but in the end, she was content to finish it out with 6-1. A brilliant win for Kontaveit who could possibly win this event with this form. If she does she will have a chance to qualify for the Finals which seemed impossible only a month ago.
