Anett Kontaveit seemingly can't lose anymore as she put forward another stellar performance to easily defeat Karolina Pliskova in Guadalajara.
That win is the 2nd victory for the Estonian at the first WTA Finals she is playing which sends her directly into the semifinals. This win was also her 12th win in a row which just confirms the tremendous form she has right now. Early on it did look a bit shaky as Pliskova was able to land some good forehands early. The Czech player had two break points but failed to convert them and that will haunt her for a while.
After that Kontaveit settled in nicely and she barely lost any points moving forward on her own serve. As the match went on her confidence grew and it was reflective in her baseline play. Pliskova for the most part looked rather comfortable as well. Her game was working and she was holding her serve without any issues.
That all changed in the final game of the first set when Pliskova had one of her moments completely losing it. A couple of errors and poor choices and the first set was gone 4-6. After that, it was rather the typical Pliskova once more as she completely fell apart. The Czech player was much better this year with her consistency than before but she had her moments.
The 0-6 0-6 defeat to Swiatek in Rome is something not many tennis fans will ever forget and the 2nd set here looked quite similar to that one. She did put up more of a fight but Kontaveit thrashed her easily for the 2nd set bagel 6-0. An impressive run from Anett who looked like the best player in Mexico so far.
