Anett Kontaveit is into the final of VTB
Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russia with a third title of the season in her sights as well as the final spot at the WTA Finals after defeating Marketa Vondrousova 6-3, 6-4.
Kontaveit who won in Ostrava in September could yet face a repeat of her final with Maria Sakkari who is set to play in the second semi-final against Ekaterina Alexandrova.
On that day, the Estonian eased past the Greek and will hope for the same if they do meet tomorrow.
In the first set, Kontaveit eased through the gears and after exchanging breaks to begin the tie, she surged into a 5-1 lead with a break of serve which would seemingly hand her the set.
But Vondrousova showed resolve to break straight back and consolidated that from there despite saving two set points from Kontaveit on her service game.
She went 40-15 up as she looked to get fully back into the set but Kontaveit produced a brilliant turnaround to steal the set.
In the second set, it was a lot more closer to start with Vondrousova having the only look at a break point at 40-30 up at 2-1 but it was Kontaveit who claimed a pivotal break next service game which was followed up by a double break at 5-2.
Vondrousova broke back immediately to reduce the arrears to 5-3 but had to survive two match points on her service game before Kontaveit swept through to book her place in the final.
