Kristyna Pliskova and Petra Martic were the first two players to play the second-round match at the Prague Open. Also Laura Siegemund, Tamara Zidansek played on Wednesday in the Czech capital, but they played only their first-round match.
Pliskova faced Petra Martic in her 2nd match on the home soil. The Croat was coming from Palermo where she reached the semifinals. This time, she was stopped already in the second round after a very good performance of the Czech player. Pliskova triumphed in an hour and 17 minutes 6-1, 7-5. In the third round, she will be facing Ana Bogdan as her 2nd round opponent, Lesia Tsurenko pulled out of the tournament.
In the last two first-round matches, fans could witness three-set battles with a dominant result in the last set. First, it was Laura Siegemund who lost the first set to Mayar Sherif. However, she showed her best tennis in the rest of the match as she lost only 1 more game to win the match 4-6, 6-0, and 6-1.
In the last first-round match. Tamara Zidansek took on Katerina Siniakov. The Slovenian won the first set 6-3, however, Siniakova triumphed in the second also 6-3 and so the third set had to decide. Zidansek prevailed in the third to win it 6-0 in 30 minutes and set up the 2nd round match with Eugenie Bouchard.
