Darya Kasatkina eased past Irina Bara while Kuzmova had to go to the full distance in Lyon in order to reach the next round.
Viktoria Kuzmova played against Martincova in Lyon today and she prevailed after a very tough battle. The Lyon Crowd got a chance to see a Slovak - Czech duel and it didn't disappoint. Kuzmova won the 1st set 6-4 after some special play on her 1st serve. She hit it 15 times and won all 15 points. It's not often you see a player win 100 % of her 1st service points but she did and deservedly won the set.
The 2nd set had the same result but a different victor. It was Martincova who won it after raising the level of her play on her own serve. Kuzmova's serve deteriorated and she had a lot of issues on it. She was particularly poor on her 2nd serve which proved crucial. She responded well in the 3rd set which she won 6-4. She gained back some of that 1st serve service magic which carried her to a victory.

The Lyon crowd got to see another great match after Kuzmova and Martincova. It was Darya Kasatkina who won it after some spectacular play. She won the 1st set with 6-3 against Irina Bara. It was a good display from Kasatkina on her own 1st serve. She won it a solid 70 % of the time. Both of them struggled immensely on the 2nd serve but Irina Bara was particularly awful. Winning only 18 % of those points was damning for her and she lost the 1st set.
The 2nd set was more of the same expect that Kasatkina was even better. She served better and was more dominant during rallies. Her opponent struggled again on her own serve particularly the 2nd serve which proved key once more. Kasatkina closed out the set and match. The final result was 6-3 6-2. It was a dominant display from Kasatkina who needed only 65 minutes to advance.
