Petra Kvitova has now equaled Simona Halep as the player who has the most WTA 1000 trophies since 2009 as they both now sit at number 9.
The year 2009 sounds close enough but a lot has happened since then; both in tennis and the world. It's a good cutoff point for recent tennis history as most of the veteran players right now were only in the early stages of their careers at that time. If we look at the history of the WTA 1000 event since 2009 only a handful of players have really come close to 10 trophies.
Serena Williams is on top as she won 13 of those trophies since 2009 and she's likely to stay at that number after retiring last year. Victoria Azarenka is number two on that list but she's an active player still so she might actually improve her tally (10). Petra Kvitova sits now at number 9 which is the same amount as Simona Halep.
Both of them are still active players and presumable could improve upon that result. It just shows how good Kvitova has been in the past 10+ years. She reminded everyone recently at the Miami Open.
