Petra Kvitova won a very close first set against Priscilla Hon in Adelaide but fell apart, later on, to lose the match in three sets.
Petra Kvitova started off her 2022 season in Adelaide with a match against native Priscilla Hon and it was a very well contested match by both players. The first set was a long one as it went to the tiebreak. Neither player allowed much as both were dominant on their own serve. No break points were seen in the first set which Kvitova ultimately won 7-4 in the tiebreak.
The 2nd set continued the dominating of the servers with the first four games going by quickly. Kvitova then took a 4-2 lead and it seemed like she was on her way to victory however Hon pulled it right back to make it 4-4. She then took a 6-5 lead and closed out the 2nd set with 7-5 for the huge swing of momentum. Kvitova was very good on her 2nd serve in the first set but that fell apart in the 2nd set where she lost 8 of 12 points.
Things got much worse in the 3rd set where her serving completely abandoned her and that gave Hon a lot of looks at the Czech's 2nd serve. The success she had in the late 2nd set on return continued in the 3rd set as the Australian took a double-break lead 4-0. She almost took a 5-0 lead but Kvitova held on to take it 4-1.
That was it though as the Czech player simply did not have enough to challenge Hon. The Australian was feeling herself on the court and she cruised to a 6-2 finish. A huge win for the native player who could be slated for a breakthrough if she continues playing like this.
