The Czech made quick work of her Russian adversary, defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-1 6-2 in just under an hour.
The 28th-ranked Alexandrova was unable to counter Kvitová's excellent serving and shot placement. The 2019 runner-up won a whooping 84% of her first serves, committing only 10 unforced errors in the entire match.
Furthermore, the two-time Grand Slam champion saved the lone break point she faced, but broke her opponent on four separate occasions. This match was over soon after it began, as the Russian had no answer for the former World No.2.
Kvitová next faces Greece's Maria Sakkari, who defeated 10th seed Madison Keys 6-4 6-4 in an hour and 15 minutes.
In Men's singles action, Argentina's Diego Schwartzman defeated inaugural ATP Cup winner Dusan Lajovic of Serbia 6-2 6-3 7-6(7). He could potentially face another Serbian, assuming defending champion Novak Djokovic sees off Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in their third round matchup.
Hungarian Marton Fucsovics raced past unseeded American Tommy Paul 6-1 6-1 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. He will face the winner between 2018 champion Roger Federer and Australia's John Millman.
