2018 Madrid Open champion, Petra Kvitova spoke to WTA about how she sees her victory from 2 years ago.
The 2018 season was one of the most successful in Petra's career. Back in 2011, she triumphed at 6 tournaments, including the Wimbledon and climbed to the 2nd place of the WTA Rankings. In 2018, Kvitova triumphed at 5 tournaments, including the
Madrid Open.
Before the tournament in the capital of Spain, the Czech player triumphed at the tournament in her home country, in Prague. On her way to the final in Madrid, Kvitova lost only 1 set. She did lose another set in the final but managed to win the title when she outplayed
Kiki Bertens in almost 3 hours.
"I remember this final against Kiki in Madrid," Kvitova said. "I was so exhausted before the match. I was sleeping maybe 20-30 minutes before I came to the court. Kiki player really well, she had everything. This was really mentally tough match because she really had everything."
