Leylah Fernandez was cruising in her match against
Magda Linette but rain interrupted the match and the Canadian never quite found her rhythm after the break losing 6-3 3-6 4-6.
Leylah Fernandez was feeling really good when rain stopped play in Charleston once more. The weather has not been cooperating this past few days and several matches have been derailed by rain. This one was no exception and while the Canadian held a lead upon return to the courts, things changed quite a bit, and not for the better for Fernandez.
Linette was sharper, she was much more comfortable and knew exactly what to do in the match. Fernandez failed to adjust to that and things went downhill quite a bit. She lost the 2nd set after playing a very bad game with the score being 3-6. The final set was a pretty insane showcase of tennis and drama. Linette jumped out to a 2-0 lead with momentum on her side.
Fernandez settled a bit pulling it back to 2-2 but she lost her serve once more to give Linette the 3-2 lead. She broke her opponent 3-3 in the next game but lost her serve again. She broke back again but then lost it again. This time around Linette was able to win her service game finishing the match but she had to save four break points in the game only converting her 7th match point.
