Leylah Fernandez keeps on winning matches as the Canadian took down Rogers in a thrilling 3-set affair in
Indian Wells 6-1 3-6 6-3.
It was a hard-fought match for the Canadian but it's one she expected to get with Rogers playing really good tennis traditionally in the US. Indian Wells allows her to even play a bit more aggressive which is how she likes to do. Initially, though, Fernandez has all the answers and the Canadain won the opening set with 6-1. It was a marvellous display of tennis.
Things changed in the 2nd set was Rogers was able to assert herself as the better player. It was just an overall great set of tennis from Roger who did not allow a single break point while dominating on her first serve. Fernandez allowed 3 and failed to save all of that and that proved key.
The final set featured a similar script but this time around it was flipped. Fernandez was the one that dominated on her own serve, especially the first losing only one point. She allowed one break point but saved it. Rogers was solid on her first serve but terrible on her 2nd. She lost 7/9 points on her 2nd serve. Overall that created 6 break chances for Fernandez and she took the 6th after squandering five before.
A close match for Fernandez but on that will give her confidence moving forward at an event where she could do some damage.
