Leylah Fernandez played really well in Paris last year but this time around the Canadian is out in the second round of Roland Garros with Tauson proving better 6-3 5-7 6-4.
Both Tauson and Fernandez are very talented young players but today it was the Danish player who proved better. Tauson has been earning good wins on grand slams for a while now but her level in the past year hasn't been that good. She's far too up and down with her ranking suffering as well.
Much of this year has been spent playing ITF events building up that confidence and that level and it's proving a good decision this year at Roland Garros. She's now in the 3rd round of the event after a good win over Fernandez.
The story of Leylah Fernandez hasn't been that different as she too has been rather up and down. Clay was never her best surface but she can play well on it as she's proven it in the past. This year hasn't been that good with some very bad losses and some good wins. A good win was in the previous round against Linette but this wasn't a spectacular performance.
She played well, had 36 winners and 35 unforced errors but Tauson was better. The Danish player had more winners and fewer errors that was enough. Fernandez had a really good second set making it 1-1 in sets but ultimately lacked the energy to finish off the comeback.
